TOTAL WIPEOUT ON THE BBC

Peter takes on trial of strength and bravery for the URC

The Revd Peter Stevenson, United Reformed Church minister in Coventry, features in the first programme of a new series of ‘Total Wipeout’ on BBC television on Saturday 4 July.  It is described as an extreme game show in which contestants put their strength, balance and bravery to the test.  Peter, who is 52, was chosen to be a contestant after being nominated by the URC and attending a regional audition. He was flown to Argentina with other contestants during April, for filming.

The outcome of the contest is a closely guarded secret until the programme is screened. Peter said: “I do assemblies at three junior schools and a special needs school; the children all want to know how many balls I managed to get over – and whether I managed to avoid a dunking ……. While my 18-year-old daughter just wonders why she has to have a father like me.”

Peter was ordained in 2000; he previously worked both as a bookmaker and an undertaker. He is currently minister to the north west Coventry group of churches. He moves in September to Crossway, Elephant and Castle, South London. He recently received a Doctor of Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, New Jersey; his dissertation was on perceptions oc community ministry

Watch ‘Total Wipeout’ on BBC1, Saturday 4 July at 7.25pm.
